Over the last few years, we’ve seen a huge influx of African or Ankara prints in mainstream retail stores as well as online fashion shops all over the world. African inspired fashion is becoming a trend, everyone is joining the trend from celebrities to artist and fashion loving people. Now numerous fashion brands are selling African Print apparels as well as accessories ranging from African maxi dresses for wedding and occasions to Trouser suits, Swimwear, Palazzo pants, kimonos and jackets. The use of prints in mainstream fashion will be here for a very long time with designers tantalising us with a variety of jaw dropping creative designs. combining African print aka Ankara with other prints and textures.
I started my very own clothing brand in 2018 with the main objective to use my traditional Ankara prints to designs multi-functional outfits ideal for both casual and occasional gathering. I have put together a few of the ways some of my designs where styled for different purposes. I would love to hear what you think about this blog post which features different ways to incorporate African styles into your wardrobe !
A magical African dress can transform any look from chic to glam to royal with the best cuts and fit. The styling is endless as you can decide to include additional accessories like a belt to accentuate the waist. Its comes in different styles: off shoulder dress, A line, Pencil fitted, skater dress; the list is endless. A line dresses work for almost all shapes, but the details (frills, patterns, embroidery, etc) is what makes these African dresses stand out from the crowd. Maxi dresses are my fav, because it can sometimes give off the girl next door look as well as a royal look.
Set the party off with an OMG! Well-tailored one-piece African print Ankara jumpsuit or romper, its so trendy and stylishly chic or opt for a two coordinating pieces of a vibrant exotic print pant, skirt or short suit.
Fancy a crop tops perfect for skinny jeans, then this perfect African print crop top from our collection will be my top pick. Other styles are peplum tops, boxy cuts and even blazers, you can wear one with a black pencil skirt or your cutest pair of jeans for a quick and easy-to-do evening outfit.
You can pair a flared, mini, skater, midi or maxi skirt in an African print with a solid tee or button-down shirt and you’ve got yourself a perfect brunch, lunch or date outfit.
Like skirts, you can easily pair African-print pants and shorts in cuts that flatter your womanly shape with basic tops for casual wear that has an element of sophistication and demure.
If you’re not the runway model type that's ready to strut your stuff with African dresses or African print from head-to-toe, you can also incorporate the African style into your accessories, with hats, bags, shoes, head wraps and chic jewellery fit for a Queen.
